This evening I lost one of my very best friends.

As you know, I've been posting about Faulina in the Pet Talk forum. So what's been happening until now is all there. I didn't expect her to make it through this year, but I also didn't expect it so soon.

She went peacefully here at home. I made peace with her and loved her, told her what a good girl she is. And I said she could go.

I didn't want her to suffer.

Faulina was born probably in the spring of 1997. I adopted her from the MI Humane Society in Nov or early Dec of '97. She was the best dog to me. My loyal companion, my friend. She went everywhere with me. People in my area we lived in loved her dearly and always asked me about her. She was a close companion to my dad too. I know he will miss her very much.

Faulina's memory will never die. She was beautiful. She got me my very first cat, Jasmine. Jasmine is a kind reminder of her.

Rest in Peace Faulina.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your beloved friend, Faulina, ((Lil' Bear)).

I was not able to view the pics, as Facebook said 'you have to log in to view the page' (maybe it is because I am not a member of Facebook), but I know how beautiful she was and how much you and she loved each other.

Open Arms are never empty...only waiting.

Faulina de Foxworth Cartier
Spring 1997 - January 18, 2009
German Sheperd/Collie mix

I adopted Faulina late November of 1997 from the Michigan Humane Society. I had lost a dear friend, Lady Buffington and felt I couldn't keep living on without a dog. After 10 days of grieving, we went looking for our new family member. I prayed to Jehovah God to help me find the perfect dog for our household. I wanted a dog that wouldn't hurt our birds, that would be a part of our family.

I went through about 6 different dogs. Each one just didn't seem like the 'one'. I was hesitant to get a German Sheperd because they tend to have hip problems and that can be a very sad and hard process. Surgery doesn't always resolve the problem. But, I gave in and told the man that worked there,
"I'd like to see her."

He brought her out of her kennel and into a nice room with me and Mom to visit with her. At that time, they called her Sasha. I called her to me, petted her. She seemed to like us. Dad was standing outside the glass doors and I got his attention, pointed to her and mouthed the word, "Her."

Everyone that worked at the Humane Society knew her! They all said their goodbyes and wished her a wonderful life. Before I had even signed the adoption papers, a small girl asked to pet her. Faulina was so kind to all the strangers that walked by and greeted her too.

I rode with her in the back of the van. Mom and I were discussing names. We both agreed that she looked like a fawn. Mom said,
"What was Bambie's girlfriend's name?" It was Faline. We implemented the word Fawn into Faline and created the name, 'Faulina'. Eventually we learned she curls up like a fox, and one of my native backgrounds is French, so we finally created her full name of Faulina de Foxworth and Carter, my maiden name, coming from Cartier, I added at the end.

I bought her new toys and a bed, a nice collar and name tag. I was so happy to have her.

She was very quiet the first week or so at her new home. She was still stinky from the kennel so I gave her a nice bath. Eventually she would get baths and I would spray her with dog perfume the scent of Pina Colata. On the days of her baths Mom came home from work and say,
"Do I smell Pina colata!?" With a smile on her face.

Faulina never ran away. She was a wonderer. She'd smell around and find herself further away from us than she thought. We'd call out to her,
"Faulina! Where are you going?" And she'd look up at us with that look that says, 'What? How did I get over here?' And come back to us.

As a young dog, she could leap over 4 foot fences without a running start. She was protective of her family and any guests we may have.

Eventually, our neighbor's cat befriended her. We found it quite odd because Faulina would always chase away cats from the yard. But not this one. We were getting ready to leave and was letting Faulina back in the house and behind her came in a kitty! That was my Pretty Kitty Jasmine. From then on, Faulina and Jasmine would always be pals.

Faulina was very photogenic. I have probably hundreds of photos of her. Some find it odd I have so many, but I love my pets as my kids. They're family.

Faulina LOVED to take car rides. And for a good part of her life, she would take a daily car ride to the Kingdom Hall when Dad would drop me off for service. Dad and Faulina had to wait outside for the meeting to end so the sisters could come out and greet Faulina. Faulina loved people and I know she enjoyed their visits to the van very much. But all you had to say was, "Car?!" And her ears would perk up and she'd get all excited. Even for her last car ride this past Saturday, she was excited to go somewhere. But when Dad would take her home, they napped together, did everything together.

Faulina traveled with me to South Carolina to visit Judd. Faulina loved to take walks. When I was gone in service all day, she would be at home with Dad and they would walk together. She loved to play fetch in her younger years. When she was tired, she would just sit where it was tossed and chew on it. Ropes and balls were her favorite. She was such a funny dog.

She was diagnosed with Atopy allergies as a young dog. Her original vet called it Seborrhea. It was a dermatitis of the skin. As she became a senior dog, her allergies continued to worsen. Bathing her frequently with special medicated shampoos became the norm. I did everything I could to try and keep her as comfortable as possible. And as usual, with age, some arthritis set in, but nothing severe. Her hips would lock up as a young dog, but I always kept her weight managed and as she got older, she never had any hip problems. She met a new vet on Saturday and I do believe the medication helped stopped that itch for her last hours.

I could go on and on with stories about Faulina. I have 11 years worth. She would've been 12 this spring. She lived a good long life. She will be dearly missed. She went peacefully here at home. I spent all day with her and gave her much love that she truly deserved. She was comfortable and went in her sleep. She was buried near Judd's old dog Hershey. Faulina met Hershey about 7 years ago. Two great dogs together.

Her memory will live with me forever. She will never be forgotten. She will always be, 'My Girl.' I loved her so very much as did many others.

Her and her pal Jasmine.

She always gave that look with our cats, cuz once she let Jasmine, she didn't know she'd get 2 more later.

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks. I feel guilty cuz the past few days I haven't been as sad and it's like, sad to move on. I feel different. Tilly's been doing really good and providing good entertainment.

But, I do feel weird. It's been a weird 2 weeks, that's for sure.

I've been to her grave twice since. But this last time I was able to stay, so I went and paid respects. I miss her so dang much. :cry

It's been 2 months. It's like, 'how have I lived this long without her?'

I even hit a point of wanting another dog along with Tilly. But I know no dog will be Faulina. There's just absolutely no replacing her. I have to leave that to God. But I'm not getting another dog. It was just a weird feeling and I still don't really know what to think of it.
